Maastricht is a beautiful city with a great history: Inhabited from 550 BC onwards, a Roman army camp until AD 388, a medieval city with city rights and walls from 1204 and, finally, becoming what it is today, an enchanting, intimate city on the river Meuse (Maas), where it is pleasant to live. It has the highest density of pubs and restaurants in the Netherlands!
Last year's conference, FOM2012, in Singapore has been very successful, drawing, from all the FOM confernces in Asia, a record number of attendees: well over 300 contributions were presented in a mix of invited and submitted, plenary, parallel and poster sessions. The FOM 2012 Singapore presentations together with attached, one-page abstracts can be found here.
Focus on Microscopy 2013 is the continuation of a yearly conference, series presenting the latest innovations in optical microscopy and their application in biology, medicine and the material sciences. Key subjects for the conference series are the theory and practice of 3D optical imaging, related 3D image processing, and reporting, especially on developments in resolution and imaging modalities. The conference series covers also the rapidly advancing fluorescence labeling techniques for the confocal and multi-photon 3D imaging of -live- biological specimens.
Typical topics of the present and upcoming FOM conference will include:
• Theory and practice of confocal and multiphoton-excitation microscopy • 3D and 4D live cell and tissue imaging • Super-resolution, nanoscopy imaging: from PSF engineering (4pi, SIM, STED), fluorescent activation/quenching, stochastic/centroid (PALM, STORM and related techniques) to TIRF • Adaptive optics for microscopy • Developments in phase/interference microscopies • Light sheet microscopy • Advanced fluorescence imaging/spectroscopy: FRET, FRAP, FLIM, FCS • Coherent non-linear microscopies: SHG, THG, SFG, CARS. • Developments in phase/interference microscopies • Multi-dimensional fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy imaging • Correlative light/electron microscopy • Laser manipulation and tracking, photo-activation • Bio- and nanomaterials, biosensors • OCT, endoscopy • Fast acquisition, automated and high-throughput microscopy techniques • 3D image processing and visualization for multidimensional data
For the 2013 conference, topics on 'Optics and Microscopy for medical research and diagnostics' will receive special attention.
A technical exhibition will be an integral part of the Maastricht 2013 conference.
All information about the previous FOM conferences of the last 10 years can be found on this website, under button "Past conferences". From 2004 onwards in addition one page abstracts in PDF format of the presented contributions are available in the listed program of the conferences. Please note also the website "Search" function.
