You can book connecting flights from Frankfurt and Munich or other
European destinations to Leipzig. From the airport a local shuttle service
to Leipzig Central Station is available. It takes approx. 30 minutes to travel
to the main train station with this shuttle.
International airports are in Frankfurt, Berlin or Munich. All of these
airports run a shuttle service or a S-Bahn (underground - not in Berlin) to the
main train station where you can then be connected to Germany’s efficient train
service for your further travel to Jena.
Flying into Frankfurt: How to get to
Jena?
How to get from the airport to Frankfurt Central Station?
If your flight arrives at Terminal 2, concourses D or E (true for most
US airlines), take the 'Sky Line' shuttle to Terminal 1, concourse B (first
stop), to get to the railway station. Note that in the airport, there are
separate railway stations for long-distance and local trains. You need to go to
the local train station below Terminal 1. The 'S-Bahn' to Frankfurt Central
Station departs from track 1. Buy your ticket to Jena from the 'DB
Reisecenter', one level above the station. Frankfurt Central Station is the 3rd
stop from the airport (travelling time: 12 minutes).
Flying into Leipzig: How to get to
Jena?
How to get from the airport to Leipzig Central Station?
There is a shuttle bus available. The bus departs from outside the
terminal building. Make sure that you catch the shuttle bus to Leipzig rather
than the one to Halle! Departures every 30 minutes, travel time 30 minutes.
Allow at least one hour between arrival of your flight at Leipzig Airport and
departure of your train from Leipzig Central Station. All of the airports are
of course well covered by car rental companies.

Leipzig - Jena
How to get from Leipzig to Jena by train:
(This is mainly for people flying in to Leipzig Airport and coming here
from the air travel subsite discussed above).
There are basically two types of connections between the two cities
throughout the day, one direct (to 'Jena Paradies' station and one involving a
change of trains in Weimar (to 'Jena West' station). Both stations are within
walking distance from Hotel Esplanade and the conference venue (main university
building).
(a) direct ICE trains between Leipzig Central and Jena Paradies:

The final destination of the trains is Munich (via Nuremberg). Note that ICE

These ICE trains normally depart from track 10 in Leipzig Central
Station. The connecting local train to Jena (final destination typically
Zwickau, Gera, or Glauchau) departs from track 2 in Weimar. As in option (a)
above, the ICE trains tend to be full, especially on Fridays and Sundays. Make

Frankfurt – Jena
How to get from Frankfurt to Jena by train:
If you arrive in Frankfurt, it will be most convenient to take a train
from Frankfurt to Weimar. There are only ICE and Interrregio trains between
Frankfurt and Weimar. To catch them, you first have to take the local 'S-Bahn'
from Frankfurt Airport to Frankfurt Central Station (travel time approx. 11
minutes). The railway station in Frankfurt Airport is beneath Terminal 1. If
your flight arrives at Terminal 2, you will have to use the Sky Line Shuttle to
get to Terminal 1 first.
Munich – Jena
How to get from Munich to Jena by train:
(This is mainly for people flying in to Munich Airport and coming here
from the air travel subsite discussed above).

The Airport Rapid Transit Train S1 shuttles from Airport via Neufahrn,
Moosach, Laim, München-Hauptbahnhof (main station), Marienplatz to Ostbahnhof.
German Railway connections are possible at Ostbahnhof and Hauptbahnhof
(main station).
S1 Ostbahnhof - Munich Airport
Daily at 3:39 am, 4:19 am and 4:59 am,then every 20 minutes until 11:19 pm.
S1 Munich Airport - Ostbahnhof
Mon - Fri. at 4:35 am. Sat - Sun. at 5:35 am. Then daily from 5:55 am until
00:15 am every 20 minutes at the terminal.
Stops: Airport visitors park, Feldmoching, Moosach, Laim, Hauptbahnhof (main
station), Marienplatz, Ostbahnhof and other
Travelling time:
Hauptbahnhof - Munich Airport 40 minutes.
Marienplatz - Munich Airport 43

S8 Pasing - Munich Airport
Daily from 3:06 am until 12:23 am, every 20, minutes at Pasing, Saturday and
Sunday additional trip at 2:26 am.
S8 Munich Airport - Pasing
Daily from 4:05 am until 1:05 am, every 20 minutes at the terminal.Saturday and
Sunday additional night-trip at 1:36 am.

Travelling in Jena is made easy by the good tram/street-trolley system
that is in the city.
All of the hotels are within easy walking distance of the venue.
How to get from Jena West station to
your hotel?
Most downtown hotels are within walking distance from the station.
However, if you are tired and/or have heavy luggage, take a taxi. Also, if you
walk 70 meters from the station towards the main street, you can use any bus
going downhill. Buy your ticket from the ticket dispensing machine in the bus
(coins required). The first stop is 'City Center'. Occasionally, bus # 15
departs from right in front of the railway station. The second stop is 'City
Center'.
If you decide to walk to your hotel, follow these directions:
Hotel Esplanade: go to main
street, walk downhill to the first traffic light (100 m), turn left, walk
beyond the next traffic light (150 m) and find the hotel on your right. Total
distance from the Jena West railway station: approx. 300 meters.
Ibis Hotel: go to main
street, walk downhill and cross the first traffic light (100 m), walk straight
ahead and follow the 90 degrees curve to the second traffic light (70 m), turn
right and again left at 'Gasthaus Roter Hirsch', find the hotel to the left.
Total distance from the Jena West railway station: approx. 350 meters.
Hotel Schwarzer Bär: go to main
street, walk downhill and cross the first traffic light (100 m), walk straight
ahead and follow the 90 degrees curve to the second traffic light (70 m), turn
right and again left at 'Gasthaus Roter Hirsch', then walk straight ahead
throug the city center (direction main building of the university). The hotel
is situated on the opposite of the the main building. Total distance
from the Jena West railway station: approx. 750 meters.
How to get from Jena Paradies
station to your hotel?
Leave the platform at the rear end. Most downtown hotels are within
walking distance from the station. However, if you are tired and/or have heavy

If you decide to walk to your hotel, follow these directions:
Hotel Esplanade: Cross the street,
walk uphill in the small Erbertstrasse until you reach a major street (100 m),
turn right, cross two traffic lights and find the hotel on your right after
another 200 m. Total distance from the Jena Paradies railway station: approx.
400 meters.
Ibis Hotel: Cross the street,
enter Neugasse (this is where the taxi stand is), walk along Neugasse (200 m)
and find the hotel beyond the historical 'Gasthaus Roter Hirsch'. Total distance
from the Jena Paradies railway station: approx. 250 meters.
Hotel Schwarzer Bär: Cross the street,
enter Neugasse (this is where the taxi stand is), walk along Neugasse (200
m), then walk straight ahead throug the city center (direction main building
of the university). The hotel is situated on the opposite of the main
building. Total distance from the Jena West railway station: approx. 550
meters.
Hotel Am Stadion: Please use the public transport: take the tramp line 4 or 5 and leave at stop "Sportforum": approx. 15 minutes.
Hotel Steigenberger MAXX: Please use the public transport: take the tramp line 4 and leave at last stop, then walk 2 minutes: approx. 20 minutes.
